Medical Hypno-analysis at Psychologists Centurion

Who could benefit from Medical Hypno Analysis / hypnotherapy?

Medical Hypno Analysis, also known as hypnosis or hypnotherapy, is ideal for individuals struggling with a wide variety of challenges.  These include, but are not limited to trauma, phobias, anxiety, depression and destructive habits, self power, decision making issues, low self esteem, guilt, anger, demotivation and sense of loss of healthy control.

Hypnotherapy involves a directive short term process which helps the client to identify the core of their problem – equipping them to find the solution themselves and take charge of their lives.

Hypnosis defined

Hypnosis can be defined as a natural state of heightened concentration and relaxation in which the individual’s subconscious mind becomes more open to suggestions and change.  A natural hypnotic state is reached just before we fall asleep and wake up every day.  In hypnotherapy this natural “trance forming” ability of the subconscious mind is used to promote healing and change destructive habits.

The conscious and subconscious mind during hypnotherapy

Every individual has both a conscious and subconscious mind.  These two mind aspects are separated by a “mind barrier”.  The conscious and subconscious minds are fundamentally different.  While the conscious mind is responsible for our reasoning capacity, the subconscious mind is the storehouse and processor.

The conscious mind is responsible for analysing our experiences in the world.  It adapts our behaviour, attitudes, thoughts and emotions in order to allow us to cope in the world it experiences.  When these attitudes and thought-patterns, emotions and memories filter down to the subconscious mind they become entrenched as habits.  We begin to act automatically depending on the content of the subconscious – even when our situations change and these habits are no longer helpful to us.

The subconscious mind can also act as a storehouse for threatening thoughts, emotions or memories.  When the conscious mind is confronted by an event, thought or emotion it is not ready to deal with, these can be stored in the subconscious.  The mind barrier now acts as a protective mechanism – helping the conscious mind to avoid constant confrontation with negative elements – thereby improving short term coping.  In the long term, however, negative subconscious thoughts, emotions or memories can create problematic symptoms in the individual.  These symptoms, which range from headaches and anxiety to depression, are distractions.  Their purpose is to keep the conscious mind busy – helping it to avoid experiencing repressed subconscious thoughts and emotions.

During hypnotherapy, hypnosis acts as a door between the conscious and the subconscious mind.  When this door is open the conscious and subconscious can communicate freely and a client experiences a higher level of consciousness.

Clients usually decide to come for hypnotherapy based on problematic symptoms or entrenched habits.  Medical hypno analysis focuses on treating the subconscious and giving control back to the conscious mind.  By doing so hypnotherapy gets to the core of a problem, removes the need for distracting symptoms and helps the individual change negative thought or behavioural habits entrenched in the subconscious.

Common misconceptions about hypnosis / hypnotherapy

You will not fall asleep or lose touch with reality during a hypnotherapy session.  In fact, you will experience a heightened sense of consciousness, rather than a lack of consciousness.  You will be fully aware of everything going on around you and will remember everything that happened.  In this heightened state of consciousness, you cannot be forced to act in a way that goes against your own beliefs or morals.

Process duration: Approx: 6-8 sessions.
